Man oh man is Unhanded super cool. I love the tricks that you can do with Unhanded. I am obsessed! There is so much here and the ingenuity of this utility device is off the charts. You can really do mind blowing magic without ever touching the card.
When I first opened the box I found a card box and a card. I looked at it and didn’t know what it was. I didn’t inspect it with eagle eye precision, but as a reviewer looking to discovery a hidden gimmick. I found nothing. I thought that it was a regular box with a regular random card. Seriously! Boy was I wrong. I love it when I open a product and can’t figure out what the method or gimmick is. This is one of those times. It was not until that I watched the instructional video did I know and understand the power behind this gimmick, which I have never seen before.
With your $35 purchase, you get an empty Unhanded card box (a red rider back tuck box) and a single red rider backed card and a great 2 hour and 17 minute instructional video taught by Murphy’s Magic’s own Javier Fuenmayor. Fuenmayor did an awesome job – stellar – teaching Unhanded. His enthusiasm and excitement are contagious and his instruction is very detailed. Following his lead is intuitive and easy.
I love Fuenmayor’s live performances. His first performance is to a group of teenagers in which he does not touch the cards until they are closed and in the card box – placed there by one of the spectators. After the cards are dumped out of the box, the selected card (and signed if you want it to be) cannot be found. And, amazingly, Fuenmayor takes off his hat and the selected card is there!!! Everyone freaks! Big time!! Great performance!!!
I love the next trick too! The spectator selects a card, loses it in a deck and then returns the cards to the box so that the performer cannot manipulate the cards at all. A bag is picked up and the cards are dumped into the bag and the empty box is thrown in as well. The bag is shaken and lo and behold, the selected card and only the selected card ends up in the box and the performer never ever touched the cards. I really like Fuenmayor’s patter discussing how it is a kind of “trickshot” like you see on social media. I thought that was really clever.
Mirror Image is a killer routine that uses two decks. It just seems so impossible to your spectators, even if they are magicians. In this trick, one deck is placed on the table and the spectator is told that it is prepared, but no one knows how – not even the performer. The spectator takes the other deck behind his back, takes out any card, flips it over and puts it back in the deck. The performer indicates that is exactly what he did with the first deck and since they did everything the same, the two cards should match. Both decks are removed from the boxes and spread across a table. When the two face-down cards are flipped, son of a gun, they match. Mind blowing routine! He teaches many other tricks, predictions, peeks, sandwich effects, how to force 2 cards, and reviews various controls, false cuts and shuffles. There is some great thinking by Titanas and a great contribution from Lloyd Barnes!
The reset can take a split second and can be done with confidence in front of your spectators. There are certain tricks where you will not want your spectators to hold the selected card after the routine lest they stumble across a clue that will dash the effect.
You have to supply your own deck of rider back Bikes and the gimmick will last as long as you take good care of the tuck box and the card. You may need to replace a little something for certain of the tricks, which every magician already has in their closet.
