Visions by Matthew Wright is a killer card effect that will twist your spectators’ minds into a triple knot with this impossible double prediction. With Visions you ask your spectator to think of any simple image that they could draw. Let’s say they think of a bird. Then they cut to a card, let’s say it is the Jack of Hearts. In an instance, you tell them you were thinking of both a bird and that Jack. The performer then removes a card from his pocket (or wallet, or envelope sitting on a table) and removes the Jack of Hearts with a beautifully drawn bird on the back in permanent marker. Wow!!!
With this purchase you get a special deck printed with the Bicycle maiden back design (which are really indistinguishable to lay people from the standard rider backs), some arts and crafts material (so you don’t need to go shopping) a password protected link to downloadable or streaming video instructions and PDF’s and a special envelope. You will need to do some arts and crafts, which is simple and you will definitely need to repeat the process after a short while so the cards are in working order. No biggie. Some of the cards come with pre-printed designs on it that are well drawn.
The instructional video is taught by Wright and is an hour long. He takes you through everything you need to know and leaves no questions left unanswered. During the video Wright teaches you how to produce the prediction card from your pocket using a few different methods, as well as from an envelope that has been sitting on the table or even a Mullica Wallet. The routining is excellent. There are several live performances from real life gigs and street encounters. What was fantastic about some of these performances is that Wright uses a hidden button-hole camera on his shirt so you can see the performer’s point of view. I wish more instructional videos used the performer’s POV for instructional videos. There are also spectator POV videos of the performances so you can see his “moves”, patter and misdirection. During the video, Wright also teaches some basic techniques like the criss cross force and palming. This deck can be used for only one trick, but it is one of those one-trick wonders that is worth the pocket space for strolling, restaurant or any type of gig. It goes without saying that the deck cannot be handed out. Wright teaches as a comedy routine, but it easily can be a serious prediction effect
The drawing prediction is not 100%, but there are more than two dozen outs. Although Wright teaches a way to increase the odds that the spectator will name an image you can predict to 98%, it still is not 100%. However, he does include a PDF that you can use during performance that will make this trick a 100% hit. Wright indicated that he has never needed to use the PDF. There are some angles during a split second of concern, but with standard misdirection and eye contact, that instant will slide by your spectators.
The promotional video is totally weird and not matching the effect as Wright taught it. It has video of a woman in a straight jacket with mascara and eye liner running down her face and close ups of a hypodermic needle. The point is presumably that the woman went crazy after she was able to read everyone’s mind as it appears that you are able to do with this trick. Then, there is a real spectator point of view performance.
The trick is not hard to learn or perform. There are no real difficult moves at all, but you may be required to memorize a few things which is not that hard because of the intuitive system taught by Wright. You can repeat this trick with a different image and card immediately after performing which makes this trick ideal for table hopping.
I highly recommend this awesome trick.
