The Thick Card Project is another great Liam Montier and Big Blind Media project. And like so many of the other titles in the Big Blind Media catalog, this one kicks ass!
To be honest, before I got this DVD, I thought it would be interesting and give a different look at a locator card, but that I would probably not walk away from this DVD using anything taught. Boy was I wrong! This DVD was so filled with great ideas and miracles waiting to happen that I was so pleasantly surprised and am thrilled that I did not judge this book by its cover.
As usual, the production for this project is top-notch. Liam Montier’s teaching is excellent and the chapters are well-organized into a thought out order. With the DVD, you get a pre-made thick card. In my case, it was a red Bicycle rider backed playing card (I don’t know if they also ship in blue). Montier teaches how to construct your own thick card in the event that you don’t roll with Bikes.
The DVD teaches so much information, including several card controls, forces, peeks and lifts. The camera work really enhances your ability to learn these moves. Montier’s tips on using a thick card is really excellent.
The best part of the DVD are the routines taught using the thick card. Montier performs each routine to live spectators and then explains the tricks. There are 10 great routines taught at the very end of the DVD which include one of my favorites, Dai Vernon’s Emotional Reaction using a thick card. Emotional Reaction is a classic trick, and super fooling, but it becomes impossible to figure out with the thick card. I also love the multiple selection routine, which makes amazing people simple and easy.
From now on, I will always be armed with a thick card. What a great secret weapon. Remember that famous saying…”walk softly and carry a thick card…” well, now I understand its power. At $30, this is a must have!
