Real Coin Magic by Benjamin Earl and Vanishing Inc.

This DVD was a special treat. Yes, the direct and powerful tricks are great, but this DVD is not really so much about the tricks (IMO), but the thought behind the tricks, the teaching and the attention to the minute details that often get lost when magic is commercialized.

Benjamin Earl and Vanishing Inc.’s Real Coin Magic is a small collection of excellent magic that teaches tons about the subtleties that emerge from years of practice and genius magical intellect and insight.

The DVD itself is a bit more than an hour long. The production and presentation, like the tricks taught, is simple and but beautiful.  The camera work is excellent, the close-ups are great and the whole assembly from the lighting to the sound and music could not be better.  I would say this is a flawless project.

The first trick taught, Primary Movements, is such a basic transportation effect, but the presentation makes the trick a solid knock-out punch. Earl holds back no details in the explanation and why and how he moves his hands and fingers at every instance.  The SDS Vanish is a slow disintegration of a coin right in front of the spectator’s own eyes.  For this trick, Earl performs the trick to James Went whose reaction and smile of pure joy is priceless.  Again, the subtleties and even the body language tell a tremendous untold story that adds the killer climax of the trick.  Metal Switch is an excellent and impossible coin transposition that Earl teaches with the assistance of Andi Gladwin.  The Pocket Time Machine is the final trick taught which is a variation of Primary Movements, but is seems like a different trick and gives the spectator a totally different emotional experience.  It is very strong and effective.  Earl also teaches a few coin switches that be used in almost any scenario.

Although the tricks taught are simple and direct they will require some practice to get it down so you are performance ready. The tricks are not very difficult and I think that anyone can master these tricks with a time investment.  The tricks are totally impromptu and you will be able to conjure up some miracles anytime and anyplace as long as someone has a coin.

Earl’s presentation is about the connection between the spectator and the performer and the experience that your spectator is immersed in throughout the trick until the moments after the final moment. The way in which Earl delivers simple coin tricks just seems different – and in this case different is better – way better.  I can wholly recommend this without any hesitation.

You can find this DVD at any Murphy’s Magic dealer.
